125 Year Annirversary
We celebrated a wonderful day learning about our history, sharing it with visitors and being thankful that we are a part of the history in the future.
Teaching Matters
At the beginning of the week Mrs Reynolds and I were lucky enough to attend a conference in Hobart, Teaching Matters. This conference contained content to teach us about the pedagogy needed to promote learning in classrooms. We attended sessions on teaching, reading, writing, maths and wellbeing. Throughout the two days, explicit teaching was promoted as best practise for teaching students new information.
St Joseph’s Queenstown has begun on the science of learning journey. We do teach reading and writing explicitly. This year we have a focus on learning maths facts fluently and teaching maths explicitly using daily reviews, check for understanding and interweaving.
The conference was a affirming reminder about the importance of the work that schools do and the difference that teachers can make. We are so very lucky that the teachers at our school are life long learners and are embracing the new learning.

Mawson’s Hut Excursion
On Friday students went to the Queenstown library to participate in learning about Antartica. A highlight of the day was to wear the warm jackets and being in a simulated snow storm.
Harmony Day
Our classes were given a challenge to create a super sentence about Harmony Day which compliments the teaching and learning occurring in our English classes. Our responses were excellent. For those not sure a super sentence, it should contain adjectives, nouns, verbs and conjunctions.
Working Bee
We have been working really hard through this term to make our playgrounds a more appealing space to be that caters for the needs of all students in our school. There is much work to do. To help, we are holding a working bee on Saturday April 6th from 10am-2pm. We have many jobs such as building sheds, moving garden beds, removing garden beds, putting up screens, changing desk tops. If you have a spare hour or two we would appreciate your help. Please bring drills, spades, wheelbarrows if you can.
Ride to School Day
After a last minute call to reschedule the National Ride to School Day. This is an excellent way to remind and provide healthy options for transitioning to school. It was brilliant to see so many students safely riding and scooting to school with the required safety equipment.
