One of the challenges that we set for the children is to have an attitude of gratitude. This is an important aspect of living a happy life. Taking the time to acknowledge and be thankful for the parts of our life that bring us joy. Reflecting on all of the parts of our life that provide us with what we need. On some days our thanks is plentiful and on others being thankful can be more challenging. After having an extra day over the long weekend, being thankful seems easier. As I reflect on previous week and the week about to begin, there are many things as a school community that we can be thankful for:
3/4 Camp
This week we will host the 3/4 camp. This year the students are heading to Camp Banksia at Port Sorell for the overnight camp. Camps are a wonderful confidence building, team building and fun event that students look forward to. We are very thankful that we have such committed staff that give up their time to ensure the students are able to participate in such a worthwhile experience. Whilst the students are away they will visit Wynn’s wildlife park and participate in beach activities. A huge thanks to Mrs Reynolds, Mr Jones and Ms Walker for their time in organising and preparing a fun filled agenda.
Athletics Carnival
Although the weather wasn’t necessarily kind, the heavy rain held off until the majority of our carnival was done. A fabulous afternoon of effort and fun was held for all students. The students from Kinder to year 6 participated in running and field events to the best of their ability. Thanks to Mr Jones for his organisation and to all staff who ensured that the day ran smoothly and safely.
First Eucharist/Confirmation Celebrations
Saturday the 26th October, three of our students received their First Eucahrist and Confirmation. This is the final sacrament of Initiation and the children are now adult members of the Catholic Church. Archbishop Julian Porteus was present for the celebration and this was a special evening for the children, their families and staff. Congratulations to Mayson Brumby, Kysen Ward and Aylah Wildenauer- Ash.
Hot lunches
Ms Myers does such an amazing job to ensure that Prep - 6 students are able to participate in a hot meal each Monday and Friday. The thought, and commitment to create and provide meals that students will firstly try with the aim to enjoy is something we should be grateful for. The effort in ensuring those with dietary needs are catered for and can be involved is definitely appreciated.
Staff
Over the past two weeks each student has participated in some testing. The testing is a system requirement that tracks the progress of students. The data collected informs our system of the school based decisions and whether the students are learning the content required at the pace expected. Over the past two years, there has been a significant shift in the demand on teachers. Data is collected constantly that provides teachers feedback on their effectiveness. The data we are seeing is affirming that students are improving at a rate greater than expected in reading, spelling and maths. We are thankful for the effort of teachers, the openness they have for feedback and their consistent attempts that they are prepared and interested each day to do the best that they can be for the students in their classrooms.
Prayer
As a catholic school we have a daily focus on prayer, during this time students are invited to be in relationship with God. This relationship requires conversation. During prayer students may be centred on themselves or on others. During the past week P-6 students and staff, participated in a meditative prayer centred around a labyrinth. This experience was presented by a Catholic Education subject expert. A labyrinth offers a meditative experience that involves the entire body. We are thankful to Mrs Medwin for leading us in the experience that was so meaningful to many of our students.
As your children come home from school each day or just before they go to bed, spending some time on the moments that they have been thankful for is a wonderful way to support and encourage the attitude of gratitude.
